Our non-vintage rose is end result of a desire to create a rose champagne with a delightfully luscious, fruit-based charm. Jacques Peters, cellarmaster, and his team wanted a champagne that would be accessible and naturally engaging while conserving Veuve Clicquot's essential values in terms of style. Made using 50 to 60 different crus, cuvee is based on Brut Yellow Label's traditional blend: 50 to 55% Pinot Noir, 15 to 20% Pinot Meunier, and 28 to 33% Chardonnay. blend includes a particularly high percentage (25-35%, sometimes 40%) of reserve wines originating from several harvests (usually five or 6), which ensures consistency of house style. reserve wines, some of which are nine years old, are kept separately depending on origin of crus and years in which wines were produced. This blend is completed with 12% of red wines using red grapes especially raised and selected to give a marvellous balance to this rose. The Wine News rating: 90.

2008 gave us classically Northwest styled wines of complexity and balance. We continue to base blend on 1998 Cabernet block, which is fan-trained, a relatively rare system. Merlot lends its usual lush fruit roundness to blend, with Petit Verdot adding strength in strucuture and color, with coffee-bean and blackberry tones. Cabernet franc lifts aromatics and makes for a more vibrant palate. wine opens with dust in nose, then blackfruits, and nuances of coffee and tobacco leaf. Generous ripe fruit, with a warming brightness are laid over solid tannins by mouth. finish is lengthy with a pleasant dryness. I'd suggest this wine with heavier dishes of some complexity. In cellar, wine should age well for eight to 10 years. Wine Spectator rating: 92.

This is our smallest bottling of Notorious blend since quantity-challenged 2004 vintage when we also bottled just six barrels of wine under this particular label. This blend changes each vintage based on what we think are most exotic barrels cellar has to offer. In 2009 we were extremely limited in barrels we did use our Notoroius technique on and they happened to all come from Balcombe Vineyard and there are only four of them so just about 90 cases will be produced which is our lowest production on this wine since 2002. What is truly recognizable even at this youthful age is length of this wine. There is so much substance that is so well-balanced that it carries on and on. Buy it for its concentration, depth and exotic fruit but cellar and savor it for it length and complexity. This is a beautiful, beautiful wine.
