Ridge Three Valleys Red 2009 Red Wine

70% zinfandel, 10% petite sirah, 15% carignane, 3% grenache, 2% mataro. Despite welcome wet spring, rainfall in our Sonoma County vineyards remained below average. Flowering occurred in late May, during ideal weather; we thinned crop to assure intense color and flavor. A mild summer ripened grapes for a mid-September harveSaint Picked by taste, each parcel fermented separately on its natural yeasts. For full extraction of color and tannin, fermenters were pumped over for seven days, on average, before pressing. Malolactic fermentation finished by November, allowing early assemblage. Once in barrel, wine was racked off sediment every two months to clarify naturally. After ten months, tannins have softened. Fresh berry fruit and barrel spice give Three Valleys immediate appeal, and it will be most enjoyable over next three to five years.

Located 17 miles northwest of winery, this vineyard has volcanic, well-drained soils that are perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Knights Valley designation was first used on a Beringer label in 1974. By 1983, this area had won official recognition as a premier wine growing region in form of its own American Viticulture Area (AVA) designation. Today, Winemaker Laurie Hook uses these wonderful grapes to craft our renowned Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Alluvium Blanc and Alluvium Red. As has become tradition, Laurie kept all of lots separate during vinification and aging so that subtle differences of each individual lot of vineyard are exhibited. It is when the grapes reach optimal maturity, typically between the 5th and the 15th of september, that the harvest begins at Chateau Musar.The grapes are handpicked as the sun rises across the Bekaa valley and are then swiftly transferred to the cellar in Ghazir where fermentation takes place followed by maceration lasting 2 to 4 weeks.During the first year the wine is racked into Bordeaux type barrels made from Nevers oak and where it matures from 12 to 15 months.Our philosophy of respect for nature and ecology is the reason for which our wines are neither fined nor filtered and receive no chemical additives with the exception of the minimum necessary dose of sulphur.At the end of the second year blending takes place with the proportions of cabernet sauvignon, carignan and cinsault varying with each vintage, the only deciding factor being taste.During the third year bottling takes place after which the wine is allowed to rest 3 to 4 years in our cellars before release.To best appreciate the subtlety and complexity of Chateau Musar red we suggest decanting between 30 minutes and 2 hours before serving. Understanding exactly what qualities will be delivered from each vineyard is a key component to making great wine and a significant reason why CYRUS wins praise from critics year after year. For this latest release of our proprietary Bordeaux blend, Winemaker Kevin Hall selected fruit from seven different vineyards he determined were particularly exceptional in 2006. But deciding which vineyards lots are best was only first step. Kevin also had to determine which Bordeaux varietals would best compliment Cabernet Sauvignon that is focal point for CYRUS and in what quantities. For 2006, he blended in a sizeable amount of Cabernet Franc along with some Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. This wine is from United States, California region, Napa County sub-region and Napa Valley appellation. Bacio Divino was founded by Claus Janzen in 1993. His wine epiphany occurred while working winter seasons in Switzerland’s Berner Oberland. While in Switzerland, he fell in love with Burgundy. The wine was a Chorey-les-Beaune and it had a profound effect on the rest of his life. His palate and passion led him to France where he spent a year and a half visiting the top properties in the Rhone, Provence and Burgundy. In the late 1980s, Claus visited Napa Valley and met Charlie Wagner, founder of Caymus Vineyards. He became friends with Charlie’s son Chuck Wagner and soon found himself working harvest. Claus spent 12 years at Caymus, developing the most enviable international marketing operation in the Napa Valley. But Claus had viniculture ambitions of his own. In 1993, with the acquisition of a few tons of Sangiovese from an Oakville hillside he launched Bacio Divino. The wine was a roaring success from day one. Bacio Divino - Italian for divine kiss - is built on a base of Cabernet Sauvignon supported by Sangiovese, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Merlot, depending on the year. Bacio Divino owns three, 8 acre hillside vineyards located in Dutch Henry Canyon near Howell Mountain.
