The invention of the lollipop is still something of a mystery. Unofficial Lollipops began making an appearance in the early 1900s. Some say an entrepreneur from Connecticut began making large boiled sweets mounted on sticks, naming them after his favorite race horse, Lolly Pop. Other suspect the lollipop candies began more as an accident, where boiled hard candies were stirred by stick, ultimately yielding a sweet treat covered with the hard candy residue. At Hammond's Candies today, we still make candy the way Carl Hammond intended, with the same tempting recipes and the same careful craftsmanship. Each lollipop is handmade, making each one unique for over 90 years! Over the past 90 years, the "Mile High" city of Denver, Colorado, has seen a number of fine chocolate and candy manufacturers come and go, but one special company is still very much in business. On his first day of high school, a young man named Carl Hammond returned home and announced that he didn't need any more education. "Fine," his mother replied, "but you're not going to lie around the house. Go get a job." And that's just what Carl Hammond did; he got a job...as an apprentice in a candy factory.
